Bully 2 is trending after Rockstar made changes to the logo on its website. Bully released in 2006 and has since enjoyed an immense amount of popularity. Since its release, fans have been demanding more - and a recent change on Rockstar’s website seems to indicate that a sequel may be in the works.

Bully, like every other Rockstar game, was the subject of much controversy; specifically from parents and educators who likely didn’t play the game at all but were furious at the game’s focus on bullying. Though the main character is more of an anti-hero, taking down various forms of bullies while cementing his reputation as head of the pack, the complaints still happened. Many people also took issue with the player’s ability to kiss both boys and girls - something that was somewhat rare in games at the time of Bully’s release. Bully was banned in Brazil for eight years before sales were ultimately allowed, and British politicians attempted to have the game banned as well. Anti-video game crusader Jack Thompson tried to have it removed from shelves in Florida, calling it a “Columbine simulator” despite the evident absence of guns in the game. The latter two efforts failed, and American media embraced it.

On February 27, users on Twitter noticed some changes on the Rockstar website that seem to indicate a sequel is at long last coming. Updated art reads “Bullying the weak” - a phrase that has never been associated with the Bully game in the past. Naturally, Bully 2 began to trend on Twitter as excited fans speculated that they would finally be rewarded for their dedication with a sequel.

The full text of the website reads, “Killing dreams/Murdering hope/Fighting the righteous/Bullying the weak.” The first phrase seems to indicate something related to Max Payne is coming. Fans speculate that “Murdering hope” is a reference to the Manhunt series. Some think that “Fighting the righteous” is a reference to Grand Theft Auto 6. And finally, “Bullying the weak,” which is front and center in the design, seems to be related to Bully 2.

This one phrase on the new art isn’t much to go on, but Rockstar’s surprise change to the art has triggered a lot of speculation. Fans shouldn’t necessarily get their hopes up. In 2009, Shawn Lee, who was behind the musical score for the original game, said he would be working on the music for Bully 2, which never materialized. In 2011, Dan Houser said that the studio might work on the sequel in the near future, but that never happened either. In 2013, Houser again mentioned a sequel that never materialized. More recently, in 2017, alleged concept art for Bully 2 leaked, and in 2018 alleged casting calls for the game occurred, but the casting director involved said she wasn’t working on Bully 2. In 2019, Bully 2 was rumored to be scrapped entirely. While the game may or may not happen, the public demand for a new Bully game should send a message to Rockstar that this is what the people want.
