Breaking Bad stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul reveal what they were teasing with their recent mysterious social media posts, and turns out it was not a new TV or movie project as fans were hoping. Cranston and Paul will of course be forever linked thanks to their work together as meth cooking reluctant partners Walter White and Jesse Pinkman on AMC’s acclaimed drama. Though Breaking Bad ended six years ago with Walter White dead, fans continue holding out hope that somehow Cranston and Paul might be reunited as their iconic TV characters.
Indeed, Paul is already returning as Jesse in a Breaking Bad movie, the specifics of which are being kept a secret for now. Hopes that somehow White, despite being deceased, might show up in the Breaking Bad movie too were stoked recently when Cranston and Paul both began posting curious social media messages teasing something “coming soon.” At the very least, fans hoped Cranston and Paul were teasing a new project that would bring them back together on-screen in some capacity, even as entirely new characters.
Now, Paul and Cranston have ended the suspense over their upcoming project, and it turns out it’s not a TV or movie at all. In a posting on Instagram, Aaron Paul revealed that he and his former TV partner are coming together to create…their own brand of Mezcal. See the post in the space below:
On TV, Paul and Cranston conspired to create the greatest crystal meth in the world and became drug kingpins as a result. In real life, the pair won’t be buying a crappy old RV and some yellow hazmat suits and heading into the desert to cook, but they will be teaming up to make something that will get you intoxicated (it remains to be seen if their Mezcal Dos Hombres will be the blue meth of Mezcals). The images posted along with the announcement have a bit of a Breaking Bad feel, as they include Cranston and Paul journeying to Mexico - a frequent setting on the TV show - to seek out the best Mezcal in the world to slap their brand on. Even the name of the alcohol, Dos Hombres, sounds echoes of Breaking Bad character Gus Fring’s infamous chicken restaurant chain Los Pollos Hermanos (the restaurants were of course just a front for his massive drug operation).
Clearly, Paul and Cranston have no qualms about mildly trading on their history with Breaking Bad in order to help sell their new venture. Fans hoping that somehow Walter White and Jesse Pinkman were soon to be reunited after Paul and Cranston’s cheeky teases may be disappointed to find out they’re only teaming up to make real life booze. But, at least fans still know the Breaking Bad movie is coming. And there’s always a chance Paul and Cranston could show up on the Breaking Bad spin off Better Call Saul.
