Brad Pitt is having a great time at awards season thanks to his role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but so is the audience as he has been including some clever and fun jokes in his acceptance speeches. Pitt is no stranger to award nominations and big ceremonies: his first nomination for a major award was in 1995 for the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama for Legends of the Fall, followed the next year by a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for 12 Monkeys (which he won), as well as a nomination for an Academy Award on the same category.

Pitt has also been nominated for various awards for his role as producer in films like the 12 Years a Slave, The Big Short, and the TV drama film The Normal Heart. However, it wasn’t until Once Upon a Time in Hollywood arrived that he began winning different awards for his performance on screen rather than his work behind the scenes. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood follows actor Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his stuntman and best friend Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) as they struggle to stay relevant and active during the last years of Hollywood’s golden age.

Like most Tarantino films, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood wasn’t safe from backlash, but it has been doing quite well this awards season, earning multiple nominations in different categories. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood received 10 nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actor for Brad Pitt – and if he wins, he will surely add some jokes to his acceptance speech, as he has been doing lately. Here are the best jokes he has dropped.

Golden Globe Awards 2020

Brad Pitt won his second Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor on January 5, 2020. He had some words for his “partner in crime” Leonardo DiCaprio, saying he now knows why all his co-stars always thank him, as he’s “an all-star” and a gent, adding he “wouldn’t be here” without him. This part of his speech ended with a reference to Titanic and the often discussed door/raft that Rose could have shared with Jack, with Pitt telling DiCaprio he “would have shared the raft” – because that’s what friends do. Pitt dropped one last joke when thanking his parents, saying he wanted to bring his mom to the ceremony but anyone he stands next to, the media says he’s dating them, and that would have been awkward.

Screen Actors Guild Awards 2020

Pitt won his first SAG award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role, and his acceptance speech was also one to remember. He began by saying he was going to add this win to his Tinder profile, and moved on to thank his co-stars, among those the feet of all his female co-stars in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood – a reference to Quentin Tarantino’s fixation with feet, saying that “Quentin has separated more women from their shoes than the TSA”. Talking about his role as Cliff Booth, he said it was hard to be “the guy who gets high, takes his shirt off, and doesn’t get on with his wife”, as it was “a big stretch” for him.

Producers Guild Awards 2020

Along with Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, Brad Pitt received the David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures for their work through Pitt’s production company Plan B. His speech was not free of jokes, with Pitt saying that they’ve “been around it for 16 years, going on 17” and has no regrets other than sharing their name with an emergency contraceptive pill. There will surely be more jokes from Brad Pitt in the coming weeks as there are still more awards shows to go, and he has big chances of winning most (if not all) of them.
