In the wake of Box Office Mojo’s universally-lambasted rebranding, film fans have launched an initiative to restore the site to its formerly untouched glory. On a macro level, Box Office Mojo collects data on box office revenue and makes it available to the public. On a micro level, it allows fans to track their favorite (or least favorite) film’s performance, make predictions, and engage with Hollywood on a deeper level. From the highest-grossing ’80s movies to the biggest Spider-Man films, it provided any and all box office data.

Fortunately, a new fan-led initiative seeks to restore Box Office Mojo to what casual box office trackers deem more usable. New subreddit r/The BOMRebuild has launched with an aim to recreate the site as it once was. The group’s intent is to crowdsource artists, writers, analysts and programmers to build a working old version of the site.

So far, fans seem to love the idea, and many have rallied behind the people spearheading the effort. While there are other sites that provide detailed box office tracking and a handful that provide a resource for eventual totals, Box Office Mojo was, and is, widely regarded as one of the most reliable box office trackers out there.

Hopefully, this new initiative will prove successful and help make Box Office Mojo (now called “The Box Office Initiative”) once again a usable tool for those wanting better tracking and a better experience. Of course, only time will tell if they can get all the help and money raised.
